How to identify high temperature masking tape and common masking tape

High temperature masking tape, just as its name implies, refers to the masking tape which can be used under the environment of high temperature, is a kind of special tape with many applications, its general heat-resistance temperature can reach 80℃-100℃, and some even can reach above 120 ℃. It is commonly used in automobile paint spraying, baking finish, leather processing, coating cover, electronic part making, printed circuit board as well as fixation & cover of high temperature places.

This kind of high temperature masking tape is made of special base material and glue, its fabrication process is more complex than common masking tape, therefore, the production cost is higher than common masking tape. As a result, some bad vendors use common base material or glue to replace the high temperature base material or glue, so as to achieve the purpose of saving the cost of production. Thus the product temperature tolerance is greatly reduced, if is difficult to see the difference on appearance of two kinds of tapes, so it is difficult for customers to detect.

In order to avoid this case, as a Yongguan editor, I would introduce a simple test method to you, which can be used to test whether a manufacturer uses common masking tape to replace high temperature masking tape and cheats consumers.

The test method is very simple, using a lighter to bake one side of the masking tape without glue for 3-5 minutes, then use touch it with your hand, if it is common masking tape, oozy glue will stick on your hand, and that’s not the case, if it is high temperature masking tape.

And most important of all, pay attention to safety when testing the tape, don’t burn your hand or result in a fire, or else, there would be more harm than good.
